I’m just dropping in here to tell you that my Oklahoma, “come for the weather, stay for the politics” shirts and tote bags are live for presale! The dear people at oscillator press in Norman are handling the printing and shipping, and also offer free pick up from what I understand!

When I saw my friend John Greene wearing a shirt with this slogan, probably 12 years ago, I set out to find one. It would come up from time to time over the years, but I never had a lead on who originally made the shirts. Not wanting to step on someone else’s toes I never tried to make my own, but lo and behold this year the mystery was solved.

On one happy trip to Forward Foods to buy cheese or eat raclette or something delightful, I got to chatting with Suzy and Wampus, the owners. Somehow the subject came up and not only did Wampus know who made the shirt, he got a hold of one and gave it to me!

The original maker was a local legend, Mary Katherine Long. I chatted with her about the shirts and she told me that it sort of started out as a laugh between friends, but she ended up printing the shirts and donating the proceeds to planned parenthood for fun. Mary Katherine was totally fine with me making a new image and loved the idea of keeping some of the proceeds aside for a worthy charitable cause.

I have had a lot of good ideas for a good local spots to donate some of the proceeds to. I loved the Planned Parenthood idea. I also love any attempt to keep books accessible to kids in our state, I will keep you posted!
